Today's poem was inspired by the word 'Jesus', suggested by pupils of Marown School, Isle of Man. Thank you!

Not That Doll Again (a Nativity Conundrum)

It won't be Carter (he often wheezes)

It won't be Lucy (she gets the sneezes)

It won't be Romy (she does as she pleases)

So, who will play the Baby Jesus?

It won't be Tom (he always freezes)

It won't be Marat (he dislikes breezes)

It won't be Eve ('til that rash eases)

So, WHO will play the Baby Jesus?!

For Christmas I’d Like a New Name

I’d love to have a Christmas name

like Noël or Eve or Holly

I’d like to be called Robin

or Sparkle, that’s quite jolly

I could be called December, or Melchior, or Mary

my name could be Sir Frankincense, or Twinkle (Christmas Fairy)

or Caspar, maybe Balthazar

or Snowflake, or even Mince Pie

but it was never going to happen –

my birthday’s in July!

Just Because I Look Like Santa, it Doesn’t Mean I’m Fun

Cover me in holly

Wheel me on a trolley

Feed me an ice lolly

Poke me with a brolly

Tell me I’m a wally

Plait my hair just like a dolly

BUT

Never ever ever ever ever call me

JOLLY!
